Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) is an international passenger airport located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Besides scheduled air service to German and international hubs, it is the starting point for charter flights to popular holiday destinations all over Europe. In 2016, the airport recorded 787,000 passengers and 15,200 metric tonnes of air freight. Including the flights going through the General Aviation Terminal, there were a total of 34,500 take-offs and landings.
Francisco Rodriguez is the IT director at the FMO Flughafen Münster/Osnabrück GmbH, the company that operates the airport. "As an IT service provider, we aren't just airport service staff, but also external customers", he said, describing his area of responsibility.
The FMO Group currently employs around 430 people. Altogether there are around 1,200 jobs at the FMO location. This includes travel agencies, car rental stations and shopping facilities, many of which are also supported by the airport's own IT department.
The IT department handles these support tasks using remote desktop software. It is used so the IT control centre can access computers remotely to provide them with current data.
"We always used to have the problem that we also had to access sensitive data", Rodriguez explained. The airport administration, but also computers belonging to external clients could not be put at risk, which looms large in the Internet in the form of hacker attacks or industrial espionage. The security of sensitive data was the most important and also the greatest responsibility while assessing suitable software.
This autonomy provided by AnyDesk is what convinced Francisco Rodriguez and the IT department at Münster/Osnabrück Airport: "The aviation industry is all about safety and reliability.
